approach. There is no television, radio or electronic
games. Your child’s mind, body and spirit are
completely engaged in gardening, communal living, role
play, games, Bible study, prayer and play time.

After-School Tutoring Program
(K-8th)
Mission Statement: to make sure
students are assisted in their core subjects and any
electives.
(The core subjects are: mathematics, english, social
studies and science).
Reading
In an attempt to improve elementary reading scores,
reading will be the focal point of the after-school
program. The students will master the reading skills
necessary for their grade. These skills consist of grammar,
mechanics, usage, spelling and comprehension.
The goal is that once reading skills are improved,
they can be applied to core subjects.
Core Subjects
(Indirect Instruction)
Core subjects will be taught through indirect instruction.
Indirect instruction is student-centered, contrary to
direct instruction that is teacher-centered. Indirect
instruction is also known as inquiry, induction, problem
solving and discovery. The students will more so be
guided to correct answers, rather than told what the
answer should be.
This philosophy allows students to use inquiry methods
to solve any problem and for them to learn based on
their mistakes. Research has proven that knowledge learned
through inquiry is remembered longer than received information
that is memorized.
At this after-school program, we want our students
to learn. During school, teachers do not have time for
indirect instruction, but a program such as this with
approximately 10 volunteers and about 20 students, time
is available for them to think through their mistakes
and figure out the correct answers rather than being
provided with the correct answers.
Teacher
Ideally, the teacher ratio to students should be 1:2,
but the goal is 1:5. The purpose of such small numbers
is to ensure learning in small groups, versus recreating
the 1:30 classroom atmosphere. There should be one volunteer
to each grade level with up to five children in the
group, but flexibility (on the volunteer’s part
is necessary).
teachers must be flexible and must also familiarize
themselves with indirect instruction. There are three
examples of inquiry methods, which are used to help
students gather their thoughts and come to the correct
conclusions of their work.
Examples: Brainstorming – refers to gathering
thoughts and ideas, on paper and preparing to organize
them in relation to the homework assignment.
Concept Maps (webs) – refers to a main topic
being examined mentally and placed on paper, but each
term or phrase must be a characteristic of the main
topic.
Vinn Diagrams – refers to comparisons and contrasts
of topics, issues, etc.

Hallowed Ground Mentoring
Program
Young
Righteous Able^
Men of
Standards
Daughters of Ruth
In a world so twisted and distorted it is difficult
for any person of any age to know what is truly acceptable
behavior. The answers to many questions that were once
black and white, now come in shades of gray The spirit
of compromise is all over the world!!! We are bombarded
with compromising decisions, compromising positions,
and compromising relationships everyday. Sexual confusion,
abuse of drugs and broken relationships seem to be considered
normal.
We must stand up and be a loud voice on the side of
righteousness.
Hallowed Ground mentoring program seeks to develop
strong young men and women who are proud of their reputation
in the community. With a strong emphasis on Loyalty,
Spirituality, Devotion, and Fellowship with one another,
the members will attain confidence, high self-esteem,
courage to stand-up for themselves in difficult situations,
the knowledge of what to say when faced with conflicts
in their lives, and ultimately peace within themselves
with the presence of God in them.
It is our mission to have these groups of Boys and
Girls understand that being righteous is a trait to
be admired and when attained, it will take them to new
heights in life. By establishing a bond between these
young men and women, it is our hope that they will understand
that they are not alone in the positive decisions that
they make. The members will truly become men and women
of God and bond in the one common task, which is to
become Righteous men and women. Through life lessons
given to them during seminars, activities, and group
tasks, they will begin their journey toward becoming
more like the many righteous men and women of God.

Hallowed
Ground Performing Arts

Hallowed Ground Performing Arts seeks to awaken and
enhance the artistic creative potential of children.
Our focus is directed toward unlocking the barriers
of shyness, low self-esteem, and fear and opening the
doors of boldness, self-assurance, and confidence. We
encourage children to explore and develop their innate
creative abilities while learning to appreciate and
understand the work of their peers.
We are not looking for the “Next Top Model”
or “American Idol.” We only want to awaken
and nurture the talents that they already possess, release
the anxiety and pressure to succeed and make it fun.
There are some programs that want to develop movie stars,
but our focus is directed toward unlocking the hidden
talents children possess and encourage them to set achievable
goals. Our program is designed to build up positive
characteristics and skills that a child develops in
performance situations.
Studies have shown that participation in the arts contributes
to individual growth. This also nurtures an aesthetic
awareness within school and society. As a member of
our performing Arts program, children will acquire and
develop many skills that will not only be helpful on
the stage but also in life. We believe that many of
the same skills that a child needs to get through an
audition and a production, are the same skills that
one needs in real life situations such as job interviews,
class presentations, cooperative learning groups in
school, etc.
By taking part in dance variants like ballet or jazz,
learning to play instruments such as the flute or saxophone,
singing in a chorus, or a speaking part in a play, many
children will use these experiences and gain wisdom
to put them on the right road to maturity. These activities
and experiences are all stepping-stones to a much greater
good that gives us all a sense of accountability, self-confidence
and accomplishment.
This program may produce phenomenal actors, singers,
musicians and dancers, but on a wider scope our program
will create confident members of society. Many athletes,
doctors, lawyers and teachers initially got their start
by becoming part of a drama group.
Some children may enter the program a little shy but
with a little encouragement and love, grow to have the
confidence to conquer the world. The rehearsals will
stimulate conversation and cultivate interactions and
because of the fellowship, the children will create
bonds that will endure time.
